IDAHO the Exhibition is calling for established and emerging artists to prepare artworks that explore issues surrounding homophobia to participate in an exhibition to raise awareness of homophobia for the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), Sunday the 17th of May 2009.
The exhibition will be launched by Councillor Phillip Black – Saturday the 16th of May 2009 at the Pine Street Gallery in Chippendale.
Community organizations and established artists will conduct workshops in the lead up to the launch of the exhibition providing a forum for members of the GLBTI community to articulate their responses to homophobia.
We are seeking expressions of interest from all members of the GLBTI community to participate in the exhibition by submitting an artwork in any medium and/or be involved in the workshops.
All artwork will be for sale with funds raised going to the artists and GLBTI community organizations.
The project is supported by the City of Sydney Council and Community Action Against Homophobia and aims to further the discussion about the pervasive nature of homophobia and increase awareness that vilification/violence based on sexual orientation or perceived orientation is illegal and unnaceptable.
IDAHO the Exhibition is a grassroots community initiative and any assistance you can provide is a step towards stopping homophobia.
